EU member states are clearing the way for low-emission trucks and buses

The European Union (EU) member states have agreed on more ambitious CO2 emission limits for all heavy-duty vehicles. The new regulations will help achieve the EU's 2030 climate goals and reach climate neutrality by 2050. The EU member states have set a 90% reduction target for new vehicles in 2040, and from 2035, new city buses must be zero-emission. The new regulations will also apply to almost all new heavy-duty vehicles with certified CO2 emissions, including trucks, buses, and trailers, with the exception of some special cases. The European Commission will review the effectiveness of the new regulation in 2027 and assess the role of CO2 correction factors in the transition to zero-emission mobility in the heavy-duty sector.
