ED, Allahabad has filed Supplementary Prosecution Complaint (PC) under the provisions of PMLA, 2002 before the Hon’ble Special Court (PMLA), Lucknow against Syed Ishrat Hussain Jafri, Chairman of Hygia Group of Colleges along with 06 other accused on 31.07.2024 in connection with ongoing investigation in Post Matric Scholarship Scam. The Hon’ble Court, Lucknow has taken cognizance of the PC on 14.10.2024.

The ED, Allahabad Sub-Zonal Office, has filed a Supplementary Prosecution Complaint (PC) against Syed Ishrat Hussain Jafri, Chairman of Hygia Group of Colleges, and six other accused under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The PC was filed on October 31, 2024, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Post Matric Scholarship Scam.

The ED initiated the investigation based on intelligence and FIRs registered by the Uttar Pradesh Police in the scholarship scam. The investigation revealed that managers and trustees of various educational institutes in Uttar Pradesh admitted fake students to their institutions for namesake and applied for scholarships, resulting in the embezzlement of crores of rupees from government schemes meant for needy students.

So far, six persons have been arrested in this case. Ali Abbas Jafri, Izhar Hussain Jafri, Ravi Prakash Gupta, Vikram Nag, Ram Gopal, and Shivam Gupta were arrested on different dates between April 2023 and March 2024. The ED has filed three supplementary complaints so far, with the fourth one being filed against Syed Ishrat Hussain Jafri along with four other accused.

The total attachment in this case stands at approximately Rs. 41.5 crore. Further investigation is ongoing, and the ED continues to probe into the scam.
