Brief

"On 21/02/2025", the "Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC)" issued an update regarding "Doctors and dentists: superannuation". This update clarifies that doctors and dentists with NHS contracts are eligible for pension contributions, and their payments can be excluded from Threshold Income calculations for the tapered annual allowance. Prior to 2006, the NHS made employer contributions on behalf of practitioners, but now they must make both employee and employer contributions themselves as self-employed individuals.
