Summary:
The Digital Services Act (DSA) is a new regulation adopted by the European Union to regulate online services and ensure a safer and more transparent digital environment. The DSA requires online platforms and search engines with more than 45 million active users in the EU to implement new measures to combat illegal content, protect consumers, and ensure fair competition. These measures include:
Implementing a content reporting system
Cooperating with law enforcement agencies
Prioritizing reports from recognized experts
Suspending accounts publishing illegal content
Banning targeted advertising to minors
Protecting consumers by ensuring seller identity on online marketplaces
* Conducting annual risk analysis and sharing algorithms with authorities
The DSA will enter into force on February 17, 2024, for all online platforms and intermediaries offering services in the EU. Failure to comply with the regulation may result in fines up to 6% of the company's global turnover and temporary restrictions on access to services. The DSA aims to promote a safer and more responsible digital environment for citizens and businesses in the EU.
