On 07/04/2025, the National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES) issued an update regarding "Confusion between colchic and garlic of bears: sometimes deadly poisoning". Between 2020-2022, two people died from consuming colchic leaves mistaken for bear garlic, with a total of 28 cases reported. The confusion often occurs in spring when the leaves are harvested before flowering, leading to severe symptoms or even death.
