2nd edition of the Industrial Drawings Manual is now available

The Brazilian National Intellectual Property Institute (INPI) has published the 2nd edition of the Manual of Industrial Drawings, which will come into effect on October 2nd. The manual has undergone updates and revisions based on contributions received during a public consultation period from November 7th to December 16th, 2022. The revised manual includes changes to the guidelines for examining industrial designs, including the possibility of protecting designs with ornamental configurations, non-mechanical parts, and text elements. Additionally, the manual now allows for the electronic submission of priority documents and examiners are now expected to consider the novelty and originality of designs during the examination process. The updated manual can be accessed on the INPI website, along with the public consultation contributions and responses from the Permanent Committee for Improving Procedures and Directives for Mark Examination, Industrial Designs, and Geographic Indications.
