CGU combats irregularities in the sale of motor vehicles to city halls

The Controladoria-Geral da Uniu00e3o (CGU) is participating in Operation Carro-Chefe, a joint effort with the Polu00edcia Federal (PF) to dismantle a scheme involving the diversion of public funds through the acquisition of vehicles for municipalities in the states of Maranhu00e3o, Paru00e1, Piauu00ed, and Tocantins. The investigation began after a complaint was made about irregularities in a tender process in a Maranhense municipality, which led to the identification of four interconnected companies that purchased new vehicles, benefited from tax incentives, and then resold them to municipalities. The CGU has identified a potential loss of R$ 53.524.540,74, corresponding to 81% of the value of the issued invoices, due to the lack of vehicle transfer to municipalities, the issuance of fake tax documents, and the non-transfer of discounts to municipalities, resulting in overcharging.
