On May 24, 2024, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit published an opinion upholding the Department of the Interior's National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program. The court rejected environmental groups' challenges to the program, finding that Interior adequately supported its rationale with data and analysis and reasonably deferred consideration of potential conflicts between oil and gas drilling and other uses of the sea and seabed.
