On August 5, 2025, the Ministério das Relações Exteriores, Ministério do Meio Ambiente e Mudança do Clima, and Ministério do Desenvolvimento, Indústria, Comércio e Serviços expressed concern over the suspension of the Intergovernmental Committee on Plastics Pollution (INC 5.2) negotiations in Geneva. The Brazilian delegation actively participated in the discussions, presenting balanced proposals that aimed to reconcile differing views on addressing plastic pollution, with a focus on supporting developing countries and recognizing the importance of waste pickers.
