On 29 April 2025, the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) approved the establishment of a section 5 advisory forum, the Electricity Market Advisory Forum (EMAF), to advise on matters related to establishing a competitive electricity market. The EMAF will initially focus on advising NERSA on finalising the Market Rule and Market Code, as well as key enablers required for a competitive electricity market, including regulatory oversight of market operations.
