On March 2023, the Federal Cartel Office initiated proceedings against seven municipal utilities and district heating providers suspected of illegally raising prices. The office is investigating the use of clauses allowing for price adjustments in nine different district heating networks, finding evidence of wrongdoing in four networks so far.
