On March 10-13, the Brazilian Federal Police, Ministry of Labor and Employment, Ministry of Public Employment, Institute for Environmental Protection and Renewable Resources, National Indian Foundation, and Military Environment Police joined forces to combat organized crime in illegal mining. The operation, called Xapiri, targeted criminal organizations involved in exploitative labor practices, identifying 25 workers in a situation analogous to slavery, including 2 minors, and destroying 23 dragas and vessels used in the illicit activity.
