Brief

The Public Buildings Amendments of 1988 was enacted to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of management of public buildings. The law increased the threshold for approval process from $500,000 to $1,500,000, limited leasing authority for certain space, and adjusted dollar amounts for construction costs. It also assigned state administration of criminal and health laws to states when feasible, established special rules for leased buildings, and required compliance with nationally recognized codes for building construction or alteration. The law further provided for the protection of federal property, made technical amendments, and designated certain federal buildings after notable individuals.
