On January 27, 2025, the Ministry of Trade announced that Chinese AI startup DeepSeek surpassed ChatGPT on Apple App Store. According to Sensor Tower, the free application led the table among open-source models and competed globally with advanced closed-source models. DeepSeek-V3 model-supported artificial intelligence applications gained popularity among US users since its release on January 10.
