On 16/12/2024, the Information Commissioner's Office issued an update regarding "Water companies asked to publish sewage discharge data". Water companies are legally obligated to proactively publish environmental information under the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR), and only two have committed to publishing sewage discharge data each month. The ICO has published a case study highlighting Yorkshire Water's successful publication of this data since September, demonstrating the benefits of proactive transparency in the sector.
