"On 24/10/2024", the "European Court of Justice (ECJ)" issued an update regarding "Intellectual property: Member States are required to protect works of art in the European Union, irrespective of the country of origin of those works or the nationality of their author". The ECJ ruled that Directive 2001/29 supersedes the material reciprocity clause in the Berne Convention, making it illegal for Member States to exempt themselves from protecting works of applied art originating from third countries.
