The charge stems from a Coast Guard investigation revealing that the ship's crew regularly discharged untreated oily bilge water into the ocean, bypassing onboard pollution control equipment, and then falsified the ship's oil record book to conceal these discharges. Gremex pleaded guilty and was sentenced to pay a $1.75 million fine, serve a four-year term of probation, and develop an environmental compliance plan."
