Brief

On "28/10/2024", the "Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affair" issued an update regarding "Request for information on substances proposed as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) 2024".

The UK is a party to the United Nations' Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants (POPs), which aims to eliminate these substances due to their persistence, bioaccumulation, and potential harm to human health and the environment. The Department has requested information on certain POPs, including polyhalogenated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PXDD/Fs) and chlorinated paraffins with carbon chain lengths in the range C14-17, to inform the draft Risk Profile and potential exemptions for continued use.
