On "26/09/2024", the "Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC)" issued an update regarding "New guidance on detecting and mitigating Active Directory compromises".
The ACSC has released new guidance aimed at helping organisations detect and mitigate Active Directory compromises. This guidance outlines strategies to prevent the 17 most prevalent techniques used by malicious cyber actors to target Active Directory and gain access to networks.
Active Directory is a widely used authentication and authorisation solution in enterprise IT networks globally, making it a valuable target for malicious cyber actors. Gaining control over Active Directory allows attackers privileged access to all systems and users managed by the directory, enabling them to bypass other controls and access sensitive systems at will.
Detecting and mitigating Active Directory compromises is crucial to prevent drastic action such as resetting all users' passwords or rebuilding the directory itself. Organisations need a combination of prevention and detection mitigation strategies to defend against malicious cyber actors.
