THE CRIMINAL PROCEDURE (IDENTIFICATION) ACT, 2022
This Act authorizes for taking measurements of convicts and other persons for the purposes of identification and investigation in criminal matters and to preserve records. The Act was enacted by Parliament on April 18, 2022.
The Act defines various terms such as "Magistrate", "measurements", "police officer", and "prison officer". It also provides powers to the Magistrate to direct a person to give measurements, and allows for the resistance to allow taking of measurements. The Act also provides for the collection, storing, preservation, sharing, dissemination, destruction, and disposal of records.
The Act empowers the Central Government or State Government to make rules for carrying out its purposes. The rules may provide for the manner of taking measurements, collection, storage, preservation, sharing, dissemination, destruction, and disposal of records.
