The Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Orders (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on February 5, 2024. The bill aims to amend the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, and the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950, to modify the list of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in relation to the State of Odisha. The amendments include the inclusion of certain communities as Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes, the exclusion of others from the lists, and the modification of existing entries. The bill also seeks to provide benefits to the persons belonging to these communities under continuing schemes meant for their welfare. The estimated additional expenditure on this account is not possible at this stage, but it will be accommodated within the approved budgetary outlay of the Government.
