Brief

'The Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Orders (Amendment) Act, 2014 aims to amend the list of Scheduled Castes in various states and union territories. The amendments include modifying the lists for Haryana, Karnataka, Odisha, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli to include certain communities such as Kabirpanthi, Julaha, Bhovi, Dhoba, Chamar, among others. This is done to give effect to the proposed modifications by the respective state governments and the registrar general of India. The Bill seeks to achieve this objective and will entail additional expenditure on account of benefits for the development of Scheduled Castes schemes.'
