F State college agrees to pay back NSFAS money

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has signed an Acknowledgement of Debt (AoD) agreement with Motheo Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college, requiring the institution to pay R38,686,477.10 in unallocated funds back to NSFAS. The unallocated funds relate to students who qualified for funding but either changed institutions or deregistered, leading to the monies being retained by the institution for over a year. This marks the first AoD signed by the SIU with an institution of higher learning since the inception of the investigation, which has so far recovered over R421.3 million from institutions of higher learning.
