Summary

A Proclamation has been signed by President Cyril Ramaphosa, authorizing the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate allegations of corruption and maladministration in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Sports, Arts and Culture. The investigation will focus on the construction of nine libraries and the procurement of books, as well as any unauthorised, irregular, fruitless, or wasteful expenditure incurred by the department or the State. The SIU will also look into allegations of unlawful appropriation or expenditure of public money, and identify system failures to make recommendations for improvement. Any evidence of criminal conduct will be referred to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for further action.
